The anniversary event "25 Years of STS-99" last Saturday, August 9, 2025, at the Technik Museum Speyer was a complete success and an unforgettable experience for space fans. The large hall in the FORUM cinema was packed as four members of the STS-99 crew – NASA astronauts Kevin Kregel, Dominic Gorie, Dr. Janet Kavandi, and ESA astronaut Dr. Gerhard Thiele – provided fascinating insights into the scientific significance, the process, and their personal experiences of this unique mission.



A special highlight of the program was the guest of honor, Jannicke Mikkelsen, Dragon Vehicle CDR of the FRAM2 mission. She is the first Norwegian astronaut and the first Norwegian citizen to fly into space. Mikkelsen spoke about her special connection to the STS-99 mission and shared personal thoughts on its lasting significance for space exploration.



The guests experienced a lively mix of fascinating images, in-depth facts, and personal anecdotes. The subsequent meeting with the astronauts—including the opportunity for group photos—was an absolute highlight, especially for the younger visitors.



The enthusiasm was palpable throughout the hall: Space enthusiasts of all ages listened captivated to the narratives, asked questions, and absorbed new insights. The event perfectly integrated into the "Apollo and Beyond" space exhibition at the Speyer Technology Museum and left lasting memories for many guests—not least in the form of beaming faces and unique encounters with people who made history.
