On Saturday, August 9, 2025, the Technik Museum Speyer will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the STS-99 / Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) with a high-profile event as part of the space exhibition "Apollo and Beyond."



Four members of the six-person STS-99 crew will be on site to report on the scientific significance and progress of this extraordinary NASA mission. They will be joined by three NASA astronauts: Mission Commander Kevin Kregel, Pilot Dominic Gorie, and Mission Specialist Dr. Janet Kavandi. The panel will be rounded out by Dr. Gerhard Thiele of the European Space Agency (ESA), who was also part of the STS-99 crew as a mission specialist aboard the space shuttle Endeavour.



The English-language anniversary event will take place from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the FORUM of the Technik Museum Speyer. It will feature an exciting retrospective of the eleven-day mission, during which 181 orbits of the Earth were completed and a large portion of our planet's land surface was mapped with high precision.
