Eisenberg Virtual Mining Museum

Cultural heritage becomes a virtual experience With the digitization of the mining museum, the cultural heritage of the city of Eisenberg becomes a multimedia experience through the use of a VR application. The visitor gets the impression of standing in the middle of the museum. The museum was staged with a 360° camera and enriched with historical videos, eyewitness interviews, drone footage and photos and can be easily visited via the browser or also via VR glasses, independent of opening hours and guest tours. The city of Eisenberg as an industrial location has a long history dating back to the pre-Roman era, which has had a lasting impact on the cityscape and development. In order to make this cultural knowledge digitally available, the platform "KuLaDig" was used as a knowledge platform and linked with the application "VR easy".

Problem

Lack of awareness and limited visitation options.

  1. The museum in the Erlebnislandschaft Erdekaut is located in an old mine building and is not recognizable as such from the outside. Many residents but also tourists do not know that such a museum exists.

  1. The museum could be visited so far only in the context of guided tours for guests and thus addressed only the target group of those who were interested in the topic or local history anyway.

.

Objective and Approach

Making cultural heritage digitally available:

  • Attract a broader and younger target group: residents (cultural identity) as well as tourists.

  • Upgrading the tourism location

  •  making knowledge available regardless of location or time

  • multimedia enhancement (images, videos, eyewitness interviews) and thus increase the attractiveness of the museum

  • preservation of historical knowledge for example. B. through reports of former mine employees
